Okay, so I know I should be ashamed for not posting anything in so long, but unfortunately the well of inspiration has been a little dry for (looks) almost a year? >.> please bear with me a while longer...
The Whip of Constructive Criticism
Posted in Musing, Update, Vespa Series8:00 AM by Nanami
The most useful thing you can ever do for someone that calls themselves an author (amateur, or otherwise) is to point out to them the places where their plot just doesn't click along the way it should. I know it may seem hard, you may even feel like you are raping them in the face by taking their hard work and turning it on its ear. But trust me, provide a handful of well phrased constructive criticisms to them, and (provided they are willing to listen, and are able to see what you are pointing out) you will forever be their best friend (Unless you expect to get paid for doing so).
With that in mind Love in the Time of the Vespa Part 01 has been revised and re-released, (Read Online... Download...) and If you have read the previous version(s) I greatly suggest re-reading, as it is a much more satisfying read this time (In My Opinion). I expect at least one more revision before I'm fully satisfied with it. In the end the little piece I said I needed to work out before returning to Vespa ended up being partially cannibalized into the revision. It petered out at about 2400 words, and although it could stand on it's own, I'm not fully satisfied with where I'm taking it, so It's not going to be released just yet.

To borrow the words of Granny Weatherwax (a more respectable character than any I've ever conjured from a better writer than I'll ever be [Terry Pratchett])
I've just been under the weather, and mortally distracted. Things completely unrelated to anything of importance have had me mesmerized as of late. Not the least of which is a bout with a summer flu, and a series of books I've been meaning to read for a while. I fully intend to return to writing this week, although I may have to shake something out of my head before I can re-mount the Vespa story, we shall have to see what comes out when I am up to going back to the grindstone.
The point of this, I suppose, is to not give up on me just yet. I've received a few responses to Vespa 01, in my e-mail and have greatly appreciated what I've gotten. Since I've finally had my account on ASSTR put through, I've been able to add "Feedback" to the blog, so you can now leave feedback via an online form (anonymously if you wish to not hear back). I've also uploaded a corrected version of the story in TXT and PDF versions.
I'm about half past tired now, so I'm going to call this good at this point. I hope you're all feeling better than me!

Okay, well I know I'm not the first, nor the last to post something along these lines, but my computer took a COMPLETE dump on me (I swear it did it on it's own XD). So I've been trying to get everything back in working order. My computer manufacturer's Support Site's download server is down though, so it may take longer than I had hoped...
On a happy note, I did manage to back up EVERYTHING prior to doing the dreaded system restore, so nothing is gone, just in a state of not being found.
The worst part is over though, as the disc for one piece of VERY expensive software was scratched horribly due to my complete negligence, but I was able to get it to install by restoring the program files from the backup, then running the disc install again. Luckily the setup was designed to compare the files first, and then only to copy the ones that don't match a valid install over again. Why doesn't everyone do that?

Story Originally posted and archived on ASSM
Summary: When my parents return to Japan, I decide to remain in the U.S. Living with the family of my best friend. The story follows events as our relationship deepens into a romantic entanglement.
***
I knew I was in trouble when my parents called me into the living room. Both of them were sitting on one side of the kotatsu(1) which was the main physical concession to our family origins in the home, and refusing to look at me directly. This is normal behavior when something needs to be discussed, but is not a comfortable topic. This is the same way they had acted when they decided I was old enough to warrant having "The Talk" shortly after I turned seventeen. This was to my general mortification, seeing as I had been through sexual ed classes, and oh so many years of teen-hood without it having yet come up (I had hoped to avoid it entirely).
The room was filled with a palpable tension as I hesitated in the doorway searching my recent memory for anything I had or had not done to land myself in trouble. I was unable to come up with something warranting any great disapproval. My mother made an open handed gesture indicating that I should sit across from them, as they both continued to avoid meeting my questioning eyes.
I suppose that you would have to understand some of the culture differences to really get what I'm saying, but my parents are not weak willed people who let me walk all over them, they were just both raised very traditionally. Which to a certain lesser extent I would say I was as well. Both of my parents are from Japan, if you haven't figured that out yet I'll forgive you. They were born there, they grew up there, fell in love, married there, they even conceived me there, and as they've reminded me ever so often they intend to die there. Are you beginning to see where I'm going with this?

Just getting started with this Blogging thing. Anyone who has ended up here is probably familiar with me because of my erotic literature. I know better than most what detriment additional distractions can be to the productivity of a writer, but I'm going to throw caution to the wind and see what comes of this. I suppose that if I waste too much time, I will have to seek out a spanking, the question is who from? Perhaps I could see what would happen if I sought one out from random people in public places. That might even be a good subject for a story further on down the line once I've worked my Vespa Series out completely. Hah!
Today I'm fascinated with the word defenestration, I was sorely tempted to work it into the name of the blog to be perfectly honest. It's been tickling around in my brain, and I've been wanting to use it, and it turns out that I would have used it in entirely the wrong context!
I've started watching a new series called Hatsukoi Limited and I can't seem to get it to download fast enough, as I just want to consume it all at once! Isn't that always the case though? I should just know better than to try to watch something before the whole series is downloaded. I think I will have to get the manga in the meantime.
Hmmm... That might be hard to write about without trying it out first.

"Excuse me, but would you mind giving me a spanking?"
